"The last thing the LME wants to do is add a layer of bureaucracy"
The London Metal Exchange's Responsible Sourcing Initiative looks unlikely to be disrupted by the COVID-19 crisis, according to LME chief executive Matthew Chamberlain.
Speaking to Mining Journal as part of its Stakeholder Engagement programme, he said the initiative had been introduced to the market over last year and 2020 was always going to be a year of preparation, rather than of implementation.
Chamberlain said next year would require concrete actions from its members and all indications to date suggested that would happen in line with expectations, though he said the LME would remain flexible given the current uncertainty.
Mining Journal Stakeholder Engagement is a platform for conversation between the mining industry and key stakeholders. The programme is designed to help set a practical path to better engagement, reduced risk and better practices.
