The need to access capital beyond the pool of traditional resources financiers has been a significant driver in the increasing ESG focus in the mining sector, according to Cecilia Jofré, business director with leading HSES sofware group, IsoMetrix.

She said the demands of the finance sector had combined with a keener interest in the supply chain among a broadening collective of stakeholders to create the current ESG groundswell in the mining industry.

"The market and society at large wants to understand how it is that mines are creating long-term value for all stakeholders," Jofré said.

"In the past two years, this has seen a significant shift in terms of the narratives, moving from EBITDA and shareholder primacy to incorporating more of a stakeholder inclusive approach."
