“It’s almost impossible to see a silver lining in all this”
The COVID-19 crisis represents and unprecedented challenge for the mining sector but, so far, most miners and development groups were stepping up to the plate, according to NovaGold chief executive Greg Lang.
Speaking to Mining Journal as part of its Stakeholder Engagement programme, he said he was "proud" of the industry response and pointed specifically to the efforts around NovaGold's Donlin gold development in Alaska, where company-chartered planes had been repurposed to deliver essentials to remote communities after a local airline failed, and camp food stocks had been donated for food banks.
Mining Journal Stakeholder Engagement is a platform for conversation between the mining industry and key stakeholders. The programme is designed to help set a practical path to better engagement, reduced risk and better practices.
