"By the time kids are at university, they're set on a path"

Young Mining Professionals executive Lucy Crane told Mining Journal the disconnect between younger generations and the realities of the mining space were very real.

She said by the time students in university were approached to consider a career in mining, they largely knew the direction in which they were headed and, equally, had formed their typically-inaccurate views on the mining sector.

Crane said the greatest impact in closing the divide could be made by educating children while still at school.
