"The crisis has created an opportunity for participants to reset"
The COVID-19 crisis has shown mining executives what can be achieved in a short space of time and could potentially reset expectations on project delivery, Accenture global mining lead David Burns told Mining Journal.
He said companies had been planning projects expected to take 12-18 months that had been executed in three-to-six weeks "out of sheer necessity", without compromising on the results.
"In many instances, they’ve been quite successful in doing something that was meant to take a lot longer, so in many cases there has been a silver lining."
Mining Journal Stakeholder Engagement is a platform for conversation between the mining industry and key stakeholders. The programme is designed to help set a practical path to better engagement, reduced risk and better practices.
