Catriona has worked in the mining Industry since the start of her career in 2010. She has a BSc (Geology) and an MSc (Metals and Energy Finance). Catriona joined Rio Tinto as principal advisor in July 2017, where she sat on the Ventures team before her recent transition to mining executive reporting into the CEO of Energy & Minerals. The Energy & Minerals product group provides the materials essential for a low-carbon future.
During her career, Catriona has held a variety of roles in both the technical and financial spheres. She has held positions in exploration and resource geology, transitioning to investment analyst roles with asset managers and private equity funds. She has worked in Australia as well as in the UK and Africa.
She is a director of Young Mining Professionals UK (YMP),which she founded in 2017 and has subsequently grown to a worldwide platform for the next generation of mining leaders to thrive. She is vice chairman of the international board.
YMP seeks to connect like-minded peers, provide learning opportunities to absorb wisdom from industry experts, identify future career opportunities, and experience mining in action. It achieves its objectives through networking events, distinguished speaker dinners, speed-mentoring events, and mine tours, alongside informal gatherings to promote relationship building.
A vital and urgent objective of YMP is to provide young advocates for the industry in the wider world; and to engage with all stakeholders of the industry, which is, essentially, everyone. YMP recognises the importance that mining’s future is safe, sustainable, and fundamentally underpins the transition of the world to a low-carbon future.
